Nothing
Old PC monitor is borked (it won't switch on), so bought a new one only to find that the widescreen type doesn't seem to allow you to view anything other than in really stretchy mode, which is as irritating as fuck. And also there are no speakers, and no visible means of connecting any externally, despite the review of the model saying the sound was really good.

I'm going to see if the old monitor is going to repairable as it's less than two years old (yes, I should have looked into that option first but I wasn't thinking straight at the time) and send the new one back and get a refund because it's not what we want.

This has been the icing on the cake of a really shit day at work and I wish it was Saturday tomorrow so I don't actually have to get up.

I'm a bit pissed off. Can you tell?

Ring them up and YELL AT THEM LIKE BRIAN BLESSED
I hate it when customers do this to me, but it makes you feel better!

HAve you ever tried ringing PC World?
I did tonight and failed to speak to a hooman. When I got to the repairs option I was told to log onto the tech section of the website by some pre-recorded voice, which then hung up on me.

I've emailed them instead.

And the new monitor return policy states that goods should be returned unused and unopened, but the no-speaker situation only presented itself when everything was hooked up to the pooter.

I am therefore going to drink beer until I can no longer stand up.

No, but I imagine it would make me feel better to scream obscenities at the robot.
I do it to automated cold callers; the real ones I babble at in French and then hang up on!

Buying stuff from PC World is as pleasurable as sitting your bare bum on glowing coals with sharp edges.
Got my Laptop from them. Laptop itself is what I expected it to be, but finding out it's specifications was like scraping my fingernails on a chalkboard (and afterwards the remains of my bum after the coal-torture). Needless to say, when I get my Desktop PC, I'll be buying the parts from a specialist shop and assembling it myself.

.
My widescreen monitor does sometimes let me view pictures unstretched with black borders at the sides, but it does not have a 1:1 pixel-display mode for viewing things fullscreen, and to add insult to injury, it always blurs the stretched image regardless of whether or not I want it to blur. This takes some of the joy away from playing Retro-Games in fluuscreen-mode.

Some monitors come in two versions. A monitor-only version and a version with built in TV-Tuner and speakers. Perhaps you just got the wrong one. Can't you just connect your speakers to your soundcard?

Don't have any speakers
The last monitor's were in-built. This one is going back and I'm not leaving until I get a full refund.

Any chance you could connect the sound-input from your old monitor to your soundcard?
That way, the monitor will be a glorified set of speakers.

I have absolutely no idea how to do that

How do you normally connect the PC to the monitor?
Is it one cable for everything, or do you connect the sound-output to a separate monitor-input than the video?

Right DG
Is the old monitor less than 2 years old?

If so quote EU directive 1999/44/EC at them and suggest they phone head office.
Then they will shit their pants and give you your money back. End of.
