I need something non-painful
to allow me a few days' grace to recharge my batteries, so I can sit on the couch all day.

Am sort of wondering whether or not I'll be in work tomorrow, but I'll see how it goes.

Know what you mean
I daren't even pull a sickie myself, but have been known to ... ahem ... allow for some extra recovery time.

If you take your mother somewhere where the distraction really is a distraction, it will make being with your mother less intolerable.
