Sometimes you need to wallow and come out of the other side feeling exorcised. Sometimes you need to be snapped out of it with cheer.
For wallowing I'd go for Patsy Cline (in fact anything country) Chris Isaak, Ann Peebles, Del Amitri, Fleetwood Mac, Elvis, George Michael, and even Dashboard Bloody Confessional.
For cheering me up... most things. Music mostly makes me happy and gives me a strut.

I like stuff faaaaaar worse than Dashboard Confessional (and yes, it's wank but so are Steps.)
