Pretty much any machine that's Pentium 4 or abovewill be capable of running something basic. You just need a decent soundcard, and you can get decent external USB ones for about a ton.

it's the soundcard that will let me downand I don't have a spare £100 at the moment. I may well up the campaign to buy a portable HD audio recorder that I started with my band. the one I have in mind acts as a computer interface as well.
