I'm considering learning to code in HTML so I can branch out into e-marketing. Can any of you fine B3tans recommend a recognised course/ qualification in this and tell me how complicated it is to learn?

Teach yourself.
It's piss-easy.
www.w3c.org and google 'learn html' - honestly, anyone could learn it.

No courses or qualifications.
It's not a programming language so you can't code in it per se. It's a mark-up language.

Here, do this:
www.w3schools.com/html/

and then start using xhtml.

Actually, do the world a favour and don't bother doing any e-marketing. Ever.

The last thing we need is another "web developer/designer" who's knowledge doesn't expand much further than the marquee tags, esspeicaly one who has a certificate on the wall.

If you could please stop handing them out to shitcunts who's only use in the comercial inviroment is to make coffee, i'ld apprechate that too.
