but today the Daily Heil (or rather, Heil on Sunday) has included a 12-track Robbie Williams CD. Fabulous, I could do with a new coaster.
What's made a bad thing even worse for you lately?

store manager at work - as if things weren't stressful enough already. I've met her and she's classic store manager material. Oh but she's not actually trained yet, we're her practice run. We asked for help because we're understaffed, and they sent us HER.
She starts tomorrow :(

I've been dropped into a good number of "manage this lot please" situations in my time. I'm not normally a smartarse but I'm not a bad manager.
If she's any good she'll learn from you, watch what works best, not fix things that aren't broken and have the initiative to implement the improvements that YOU demonstrate are required.
If she's shite she'll ignore all of the above.
50/50 call, really. Keep us posted.
You could always get Friday off - or ring in sick - and head to the Carlisle micromicromicrobash. Even I'm going.

I should keep an open mind... but I've already seen her do one or two things that bothered me. She introduced herself to us all last week and told us she intends to get our customer care level up to the top of the league.
We're a small, close community, and we know our customers by name. We care about them, even the bolshy ones. I was trying to advise one of our regular, long-standing customers and I asked the new manager if a particular service was available in a larger branch. "Oh yes, they definitely do it in the branch in the next town", she told him. When he'd gone she said to me "I don't have a clue if they do, but he left here happy didn't he?" ...
I know it will be hard for her coming in from the outside and having to get to know us all. And we're so used to working on our own initiative that being "managed" won't come easy to us... hell, I'm resenting her already... And if she does all the things you've described we'll all be pleasantly surprised... but I'm not expecting her to :(

It ends up with them coming back and getting even more of the arse. Silly woman.

And it seems to go down OK.
I've broken cover on here before so I'll do it again - I've got quite a senior management job.
I work on the premise that you do as you would be done by, and on that premise please don't close ranks on the new top brass.
As I've said, a good manager will learn from you and maybe gently showing her that what works in a city centre doesn't always work in rural North Lancashire/South Cumbria might win everyone round to a happier perspective.
