Micro Men
Dunno if anyone saw it (I thought it was quite good, a change for the TV), but if anyone saw Micro-Men on BBC4 the other night (I think they're running it every day 8 times a day at the moment - well, it's been years since the BBC did anything half decent, so I suppose they're quite proud of it), does anyone know who did that version of Beethoven's 5th when the Acorn people are partying after winning the BBC contract?

I can find out for you
As I know someone involved, and was in the part scene.

It was indeed rather good.

Top fact! At the end they are drinking in the pub and the landlady calls time.
Well the landlady was played by Sophie Wilson, who used to be called Roger and was one of the people on the Acorn development team. (the guy with the long hair).

*edit* I've just remembered that it was a 'chart hit' back in the day. Still can't remember who did it though.

Fantastic
I know about Sophie Wilson...unless I'm mistaken she was heavily involved with the development of the Acorn RISC chips (now known as ARM).

That would be great if you can find out who recorded that version of it - I've heard it a few times. In fact, it was on Family Guy last night as well - the very same version.

At first I thought it was the Dutch 'disco' group eXecption, but I'm not so sure now.

Ha
Sorry, my misses just said to me "Why didn't she play the actual part in the film then?"

....oh dear. Oh dear.

Well obviously
she is too old now.

Quite.
Anyhow, I think I've found it:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Fifth_of_Beethoven

The bloke who recorded it also wrote the Family Guy theme tune.

Lot's of tenuous links today ;-)

Which one was your friend?
We're watching it again now.

I really liked it - it was not only quite gripping, but also very nostalgic for me as well.

In the scene where they eat the Chinese
he's sat next to Herman.

He lent them all the hardware and built the prototype Acorn for the 'cut the wire' scene.

Excellent
Well, tell him from me, it was a cracking program.

Far and away the best thing the BBC have come out with in years.

Sadly (and this gives away my geekyness) I was actually dreaming last night that I was producing Spectrums and I couldn't make enough of them.

I kept waking up in a cold sweat.

Sad...very sad...but even sadder is the fact that I'm not actually making it up!

I saw it too...
...was surprisingly good, it was all the better for dropping the rose tinted specs.

I remember the news headlines about millionaire teenage games programmers (a complete fabrication BTW) and some of the dreadful marketing campaigns.

Mind you
Simon (?) Smith did very well out of JSW, then buggered off to Amsterdam for a few years and now he can't remember ever writing it.
