I told him what happened he apologised, was embarrassed and then told me to leave an hour early.

He's a good boss, it was all jargon based confusion.
Someone high up and external asked someone to find out the "cost of call" they rang me and asked me for "call cost" I gave them the correct "call cost" figure and they reported it as "cost of call".

I've no idea how a mistake like that could have happened.
edit: "Call cost is 4 times bigger than cost of call"
