unless you are gonna
be watching HD content, there is no need to buy into the HD carnival. A mate of mine picked up a stunning 32" Sony Wega CRT for £40 from gumtree, bargain of the year, considering it would have been about £1400 new. Will stand him in good stead for a few years until he is ready to take the HD plunge.

the trouble is
a 32" CRT is FUCKING MASSIVE. They stick out about 8ft at the back.

I'm not all that likely to be watching much in the way of HD stuff, I don't own, or intend to own a blu-ray player or an XBox 360 or PS3, but if I want a decent sized tv, I'd rather have a flat one

True,
you can always hook up your computer to the telly though, and watch HD content like that. Bloody lovely, and effectively free. Nudge nudge.

this is a very good point

I hate HD
It makes things look awful.
It exposes the awfulness of television.

that's more of a sign of a shit telly than anything else.
Good HD tellys upscale the content properly these days.

Oh really?
Because I was rond my mate's house and I was going red with embarrassment for how much you could see that people were acting and the sets were cack.
I mean it was true of the programmes he was watchign anyway, but it was sixty times worse. I went red.
