You could wear a smart suit
but cut the trousers into shorts, with a turn-up and everything.
Then they can't accuse you of dressing too casually.

Any suit that was smart before I put it on, would not be when I did.

I often have a shirt and tie visible above the desk. Below is shorts and hiking boots.
