Posh dishes and pans.
Is it just me, or does anyone else have a "regular" set of pans, dishes, cutlery etc for everyday eat at home alone meals, and then another set of "posh" pans and dishes that only come out when you've got visitors?

I have a cheap set of pans, plates, cutlery etc, and then the expensive stuff only comes out on the 6-8 times a year I have people over for dinner!

I don't, but I'd like to
In fact, I was once on, um, Woman's Hour, saying the very same thing...

I'm cool, me...

I was just wondering,
because I've neglected to do the washing up for the last couple days and had to use my "posh" pans to make shepherds pie tonight! I felt guilty about using them!

I can appreciate that feeling
Although they might give your pie that extra little hint of special.

Well, I did cook it to take over to a friends house
so I guess that counts?

since the in-laws landed i've kept my decent knives and pans stashed.
once a chef always a chef.

My "decent" knives
are shit. My IKEA knives are all of the win. Go figure! (as in sharp choppy ones, not dinner ones!)

i have quite a repertoire of knives i've been evolving for 20something years now...
best buy £2.75 chinese cleaver.
favourite £75 yoshikin global deba i got for about thirty quid 12 years ago.

they are my in-laws and i love them BUT they are clumsy, short-sighted fuckers who have never had anything material worth looking after*. on account of that my decent stuff would get buggereded in no time at all.

*this may sound patronising or whatever but i know my Polish family really well. ironically, but not surprisingly, i communicate more easily with them than my own parents.

I can understand possibly having a good set of crockery and cutlery for fancy occasions
but having different pans just seems stupid. I have the pans I have because they are good and suit my cooking. Why would I want another inferior set as well?

to make shit food?

(, Fri 18 Dec 2009, 9:08, Reply)
that must be it
I've not had the need to do that as yet. I'd better get a set of crap pans just in case
(, Fri 18 Dec 2009, 9:23, Reply)
i don't
as I have precious little space to store the ones I have. I used to have "posh" tableware, but that soon got assimilated into everyday use and now looks like shite as well.
