Keep on the motorways, prepare to be caught in delays and take some hot drinks and blankets. And don't run out of fuel, just in case.

I've heard people that swear by taking the toll rather than non-toll
But when I drove up from London the non-toll was actually better. Depends on traffic and all sorts really.
