On Tuesday
myself, Mr vitC, his dad, and the micronutrient (12 weeks old today!) will be driving up to Glasgow. We live just north of london, so it's about a 7 hr journey in normal weather. However, it's fecking freezing down here just now, snow and ice all around. What do you reckon our chances are of making it?

Anyone else doing stupid journeys for to spend christmas with ungrateful relatives?

Having recently come south from Glasgow, I'd say ok
Keep on the motorways, prepare to be caught in delays and take some hot drinks and blankets. And don't run out of fuel, just in case.

If there's no more snow, you'll be fine.

good good
thermos flask needs decontamination, but otherwise think we're fine. sad bastard question - did you go by the M6? if so, toll or no toll?

I've heard people that swear by taking the toll rather than non-toll
But when I drove up from London the non-toll was actually better. Depends on traffic and all sorts really.

It's been pretty snowy just north of the border today
And it's meant to freeze the next couple of nights, so roads could be bad. Saying that, the motorways will be ploughed and gritted, so you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

Just one thing
Never let your petrol tank drop to less than half full if the weather is really bad.

If you get stuck somewhere, a half tank of gas will keep your engine running at idle and blowing hot air out of the heater vents for a good 12 hours in the average car

^Now this is good to know.

I think, don't bother
Really, is it worth it?
If it was just two adults I say risk it, but is it worth you baby getting ill? I'm sure there are family members who would love to see you and the baby, but they would rather you were all well and safe.

Chances are it'll be fine, but I have to say if it was me I'd stay at home and enjoy a Christmas free of anoying aunties.
