Good morning. Not only is my computer dead, my Xbox has decided to follow suit.
Has anybody any experience of the x-clamp home-fixes for the Red Ring of Death?

If not, what do you hate most about computers or Bowie?

Dont bother with the towel method (overheating it until it re-sets)
it just delays the enevitable. Get it fixed or buy a new one.

I know this feeling
Mine died, its still boxed up awaiting a trip back to Microsoft HQ. We brought an Elite instead. I'll get it fixed eventually and probably give it to my bro or something.

Sad times.

I tried
The X Clamp....No joy, it's rubbish.

Just replaces the method that the cooling fins attatch to the mobo.

Replaces the 'X-Clamp' with 4 screws, so you can supposedly 'pull' the chip onto the board and eliminate any bad solder connections....

My advice is give it a try but assume you're going to fail.
there's plenty of bodge job videos online, but it's very likely you'll totally fuck it up.

I haven't tried this yet but I've had this bookmarked for a while
www.instructables.com/id/Fix-the-Red-Ring-of-Deathwithout-towels/

I ended up buying an Elite as I was flush at the time and the disc upgrade was useful but assuming yours is out of warranty give it a go.

I'm planning on getting the parts to try this sometime soon so I've got a second one that I can use as a WMC extender so if you do try it let me know how it goes please?

If yours is out of warranty then you might be best off just picking up an Arcade.
