but planning to break the journey home up with a day or two in a place or places of interest

as a whisky lover I can thoroughly recommend stopping off at Dufftown to do a tour of Glenfiddich or Belvenie, and get to sample the goods afterwards.

I'm not a fan of whisky at all
I quite like Laphroaig for it's extreme peatyness, but that is more of a novelty than something I'd drink for enjoyment

well thats an Islay anyway, so not exactly on your way.

If there is a Go Ape anywhere in Scotland I suggest you try it, i'm terrified of heights but sort of enjoyed it.
