It was 'What a Waste' by Ian Dury and The Blockheads
but this morning it seems to have been pushed aside by Leeds United by Amanda Palmer.

That's because he can't, and it's poetry anyway.
Probably a generation thing. Sadly, you are too young and missed it.
There's a film coming up with Andy Selkis as Drury. I'll be there. You won't. C'est la vie.

What was it with Sparks and the 'sing as many words to the bar as possible' thing? Did they do anything else, but?

half of my favourite bands are from well before I was born
so the generation thing doesn't really cut it, unless you are saying my generation tends not to like dull music with rubbish lyrics spoken by someone with an annoying voice.

A general guide that I've always found useful
A person who doesn't like Ian Dury & The Blockheads = A witless tit.
