I didn't start the thread as an exercise in "I'll show you" The mention of him earlier just started me thinking about his lyrics. Which I think are full of earhty wit and wisdom. If someone had mentioned Elvis Costello (in either a positive or negative way) it would probably have been him that had been the subject of this thread.
I'm slightly surprised that ppeople assume they know your thought process and immediately label anything quoted from a song as emo. In this case that seems as appropriate as labelling me a miserable bastard if I started a "What's your favourite Tim Vine joke?" thread.
Also, I didn't actually call anyone witless. I quoted a maxim which is something I've quoted to friends before.

It was unfortunate that your comment popped up just under Vipros' saying Ian dury was shite.
If you'd offered him a good bumming by way of remedy all would have been settled. And life would be duller.
