I did History and Politics at Uni
Which, with hindsight, was immensely dumb of me. If you join the Ballroom team I'll see you at a competition and can buy you that drink!

I couldn't dance to save my life
two left feet. Genuinely terrible.

Why was it dumb to do History and Politics? (I'm now worried)
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:07, Reply)
I'm a great dancer but I only did Fine Art at poly.
And I'm off.

See you all tomorrow.

have a nice night!

Because I only picked the degree based on my two favourite A-levels
and had no idea what I was getting myself into. Not enough thought went into the decision. With hindsight I should have done Eng Lit, or Journalism, or something I was actually able to stay awake through. Either History and Politics got dull on the move up from Secondary to Higher Education or my tastes changed.

Well I picked history
because I used to love it. Now I hate it, but on the plus side it's a pretty versatile degree- I can go into the city, law, management consultancy, pretty much anything with a bit of training

Just don't let complacency get the best of you like I did :-)
How much can you deviate from the core subject in the latter years?
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:18, Reply)
We specialise quite intensely here
so my degree is concentrated on medieval history and the Augustan principate in Rome, but we can't really do anything except history (though there are archeological and anthropological modules)
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:21, Reply)
Crikey
And I guess there's very little time left over for drinkin' an' shaggin', it being Oxford?
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:23, Reply)
well the problem is
I don't really like working. And I'm not very good at it. So I do heavy drinking etc, but most people don't. Apart from a few hard-core people

What year are you in?

(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:29, Reply)
second
:(
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:30, Reply)
So you're just over a year away from making loads of beer money and having more spare time in which to spend it :-)

I'm quite liking university
it's a lovely city, but my brother is at Brighton and I think he's having more fun than I am
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:37, Reply)
If that is true
Then your brother is gay

/end geographical stereotyping

That may be true, but you'll be fucking proud of yourself when you're done. Not many people get a degree from Oxford
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:45, Reply)
Brighton is a great party-uni
so I'm a bit jealous of that. Ah well you're right, if I end up getting my degree it'll be worth it.

Where did you study?
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:49, Reply)
UEA, here in Norwich
Can't complain. Met some brilliant people. And if I hadn't come here I wouldn't have met Ms Foxtrot
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:51, Reply)
I have some friends currently studying there atm
they love it
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:52, Reply)
This is a long shot, but...
are they on the Ballroom team?
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 21:58, Reply)
nope
they're all a bit too heavy drinkers for that
(, Wed 21 Apr 2010, 22:01, Reply)
Ballroom dancing does not preclude drinking, believe me
It almost makes it compulsory

Tell them to come try out next year. And get them to walk up to the guy with the most peircings and tell him Amberl sent them
