if it were not for the fact that I burned myself to an interestingly crispy cinder yesterday and was barely able to even sit in direct sun just now when we had lunch on the grass outside. All I want to do today is curl up in bed and whimper.

Oh, nasty!
Sunburn is never a good thing. Even if there is a small payoff when you get to peel the outside of your skin off in a few days.

I'm quite lucky - I've gone mega pink, but it'll go brown rather than peel. I do look like I've been run over with some kind of zebra-crossing device though, I'm all pink/pasty stripes.

I go very pink
then it all peels off and I'm back to brilliant white again.

After several iterations, I eventually turn vaguely off-white.

It's not worth the pain and possible future consequences just to turn my skin a slightly different colour. I prefer to remain pale and interesting dull.
