The last thread
was becoming difficult to navigate.

I hope no-one minds that I've started a new one. Links, late night shenanigans etc

Me too!
Freakazoid was the best when I was a kid!

I still remember the theme now, '...otherwise we'd all be unemployed, freakzoid, chimpanzee'

worth watching nearly all his stuff
especially Irish Ballad, Masochism Tango, the Elements Song and Send the Marines
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:06, Reply)
I fancy some calming stuff
so here are 3 songs I like that calm me down.

If you care enough to listen and don't have spotify, I'll find the youtube links.

We Were Born The Mutants Again With Leafling - of Montreal
3 Speed - Eels
Novocaine For The Soul - Eels
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:30, Reply)
the Eels for me
are more depressing than calming. Which I don't mind in some moods.

I'm liking the sound of the Mutants one though
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:32, Reply)
3 Speed is at once really depressing and really beautiful
I can't listen to the whole of Electro-Shock Blues in one sitting. I'd end up bawling my eyes out.

OK I've just put it on. I'll see how far I get before I need sleep or re-enact the first song.
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:34, Reply)
I know the feeling
my first proper boyfriend (i.e. more than three weeks) introduced me to the Eels when I was about 16. Tore my heart out a bit. Same with Nick Cave
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:36, Reply)
My Pet (who is almost lost to me)
introduced them to me. I was his Beautiful Freak :(
He was (at the time) the fifteen year old boy with a bullet in his forehead.

We'd sit in his room and smoke fags and listen to Eels, oM, Mastodon and Girl Talk. I miss those days.
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:39, Reply)
I want to be young again
I can't believe how old I feel. I would do so much differently if I had the chance
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:40, Reply)
I was aptly "turning 18 and trying not to look so lost
have a not-so-nice day"

Seems like forever ago.
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:43, Reply)
haha when my mother said
don't try to be older than you are, because you'll regret it, I think she spoke some truth.
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:45, Reply)
"Don't wish your life away"
what my dad always tells me :(
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:46, Reply)
It's good advice
you should just do things rather than think about them
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:48, Reply)
double reply oh my
oM are fantastic, I love Hissing Fauna..., all apart from one track. It's a great album, it's a concept album of sorts where the singer metamorphoses (if that's right) from himself to his alter ego, Georgie Fruit. It's a lot better than that makes it sound. There's an 11 minute track which is amazing (The Past is a Grotesque Animal) which is the bridging point. The track following this is one of my favourite songs.
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:38, Reply)
I shall give it a shot
I was listening to the Electric Shock Blues album, then Spotify adverts interrupted. Sort of ruined the mood
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:39, Reply)
I should listen on iTunes
I can imagine having spotify interrupt this would spoil the tension.
Onto Cancer for the Cure. Going well. Don't quite want to die yet
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:40, Reply)
I'm still on Going to your funeral
And it makes me feel sad. And nostalgic
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:41, Reply)
This song just makes me think of P___, the boy mentioned up there.
I think I might start crying.

Because of the fact above, and he once told me to come and visit him at eight o'clock, and then I'd see that he's not the crazy one. I'm aware i'm doing a Cave Duck and quoting lyrics. But these are gorgeous.

For those not listening to the album rihgt now
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:46, Reply)
The whole album
is so evocative. It's not even fixed to particular memories, just to a time of life.
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 0:48, Reply)
It's about how all his family were dying
Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor is actually adapted from a diary entry by Elizabeth, his sister, detailing an attempt at suicide.
She eventually succeeded.

OH MY GOD BEST ENDING TO AN ALBUM EVER
ESPECIALLY WHEN THE ALBUM HAS BEEN ABOUT EVERYONE DYING AND COMPLETELY FULL OF MISERY
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 1:29, Reply)
Don't know if I should like this as much as I do
but it's kind of amazing
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 1:30, Reply)
I've never heard that before
but it is oddly entrancing.
(, Wed 2 Jun 2010, 1:32, Reply)
