That's the good thing about English languageYou start using a new word, and if it catches, that's it, you have a new word. You don't need The Royal Academy of the English Language to evaluate it, consider if it's necessary and then, in some cases, accept it as a new word.

I think the official lineis that if you can get the word published in a certain number of publications, then it will be recognised as a word. Sadly I can't remember what the threshold is, nor what criteria said publication has to fulfil in order to be recognised (e.g., so "horsetastic," however frequently used in Deagostini I Love Horses would probably not qualify)
