I'm all for offering incentives to encourage healthy lifestyles,
but to be paid to do it is ridiculous.
There's a couple of companies that I know of that will give you an extra half day or full day vacation time if you join their healthy lifestyle schemes and accomplish the target goal. I think that's fair. But not paying somebody cash.

Is this a californian thing?

Yes, but it's also nationwide.

I have a brilliant idea for combatting obesity.
Obesity is caused by the availability of cheap food in supermarkets, so if the price of all food is doubled or even tripled, there'll be no more cheap food, and therefore no more obesity!

I should be paid to come up with classics like this; preferably about £100,000 a year.

But then they'll give them vouchers for even more money
If they had food deliveries of fresh vegetables and fruit and were banned from going to the local chippy, that might help a bit.
