Recently (i.e. in the last decade and more)
even getting to the finals has been but a dream.

The good thing about being a Scot is that we know the team's pish so don't expect to do well! Unlike the English media, which seemed to have the cup won for England before the tournament even started.

Winds me up. For three months before the tournament the media is picking the team and saying how we should believe we can win it if this or that happens, then tearing the players apart for their perceived shortcomings

It doesn't mean they'll win or they'll do any good. All the other selections are going to play at their best against Spain. It won't be easy.
