called 'A modest proposal' in which he volunteered the idea that since the British lacked meat, and the Irish were poor and had too many children, that they should sell their children as meat to rich people

why did that not catch on?
I bet it was because the rich don't want to eat the mick

about depopulation of Ireland resulting. A lot of people did not realise it was satire.
'A young healthy child well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious nourishing and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee, or a ragout.'
Quite shocking for the time

I'm still on board with his ideas though

it's well worth the watch. It's one of those rare shows that gets better and better, rather than degenerating. So the first season if not bad, is a bit banal, while as it goes on it gets darker and more thoughtful

need to get the mrs interested, then she will motivate me to watch it.

I was just going to say. I have all of it on disc, so you'd be welcome to borrow it if you don't mind waiting (or borrow a later season)
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 16:38, Reply)
but I've got a couple of avenues which will make it less likely that you will murder me for not giving you back your DVDs within a sensible timeframe ;-)

I think I could survive one season going missing for a few months. But yeah whatever is best :)
