Perhaps - and I'm just guessing here - they wanted to sell records
Linkin Park have done alright for themselves. Not a bad template to copy. I see your point, don't get me wrong - no-one likes a sell-out. But to someone like me who doesn't like Drum'n'Bass Pendulum made the right choice. And whilst Linkin Park have long since disappeared into self-parody, their older stuff still gets more people dancing than does Mastodon, musical integrity be damned

I have no time for training bra bands like Linkin Park or Pendulum
I like a lot of metal. In particular Slayer, Kyuss, Sunn O))), early QOTSA, Nailbomb, Ministry etc. But when I see bands like the aforementioned Linkin Park, Evanescence, Green Day and Pendulum doing their thing it leaves me dumbfounded. It's entry-level music for 12 year olds and people who equate success with quality. Having said that, I also despise Faithless, all Hard House, the Tidy Boys, 50 Cent, Cascada and Oasis for the same reason.

I never got the whole stadium trance thing.
Surely Faithless are a poor man's trance version of Massive attack?

I never like Massive Attack

But again, that's just about taste, isn't it
No-one in their right mind would ever claim that Billie Joe Armstrong was as good a guitarist as Kerry King, but he knows how to write a catchy tune. Or, given their most recent output, he knows how to REwrite a catchy tune and convince people that different lyrics = different song. That's what he's good at and although I understand your thinking it to be shit, I happen to like Green Day. Obviously you prize musicianship and agression above commerical success, and fair play to you for that; we'd be richer as a species if everyone held this view and artist with no discernable talent like the aforementioned Mr Cent and those Manc Beatles-worshipping twats (you missed out Robbie Williams) were never allowed near a recording studio. Honestly I've given up getting angry at bands who make it big for no explicable reason, it's not worth the energy. Maybe I'm just getting old

I'm not angry at them at all
I just find it amusing that people past the age of 13 buy Green Day, Linkin Park and Pendulous records.

You can't be totally cloth-eared though- you like Faith No More. Now that was a band that could mesh metal with electronic and retain humour, warmth, wit, talent and integrity.

Unlike Pendulous.

You are a bit angry at them
or you wouldn't be trying to get a rise out of me with your comments about them.
(, Fri 25 Jun 2010, 19:41, Reply)
Not at all
I know you love them. I can't see the attraction or the point. To me, they just sound like generic poppy rock with some cheesy breakbeats in. Just wanted a different viewpoint. The first tunes of theirs I heard were that Pack of Wolves remix they did for Nightbreed and Another Planet. Great, great tunes. Good, well produced, techy DnB. Then they released In Silico and Granite.

And that hilarious strop on Dogs On Acid. My favourite thing they've done since their early days.
(, Fri 25 Jun 2010, 19:47, Reply)
I genuinely have no idea about this Dogs on Acid thing
This is my point though. To me most D'n'B sounds incredibly samey and therefore dull. It's not my cup of tea but you love it so fair enough. For you to go after Pendulum and someone who likes them with such venom intimates that their success angers you
(, Fri 25 Jun 2010, 19:51, Reply)
Whoah!
Their success doesn't anger me at all dude. Not one jot. It amuses me.

Anyway, did you not challenge fans of 'dance music' to listen to their new album and not proclaim it to be genius? I have heard it, I love electronic music and I find it very, very poor. They just aren't very good at what they do, either their pseudo DnB or their rock stuff.

The DoA thing is here:
