This is the old trap of parents and weddings.
Apparently the ideal way to handle this is to split the guest list into thirds - one third for your guests, one for your husband-to-be's guests and one third for your parents' intended guests.

(We ignored this, decided to pay for our own, and will not be inviting any of my or Captain V's da's family. We did concede to have some of our parents' friends at the evening bit though.)

it is
the friends of my parents and the friends of the parents of my mrs.

ah yes
my lazy mind hadn't seen the 'friends' which answered my question: Where's the possessiveness?

Of course this means I thought you were saying that your parents and your future in-laws could f*** off.
