that's just ridiculous. First of all as Chompy pointed out, it's not an effective deterrent for those you have to worry about (i.e. the grown up criminals) and second of all it is brutal trampling of human rights. Do you genuinely think people are born criminals? Do you really think we have a limited, set amount of families that generate criminals?

But if you allow me to get all Daily Mail for a second, yes I believe a number of criminals are born into a criminal environment. Of course it's not going to stop all crime but I propose that it will help. You think it's the human right of a violent criminal or sex monster to reproduce?

I forgot. Human rights are only given to the people we want to have human rights. That's where I've been going wrong.

Rather than arbitrary and ineffective short term measures, we need to take a long term view of a restructuring of society with an emphasis on tougher terms for criminals, and adequete support for those at most risk of becoming part of the criminal element

I'm not exactly a hard-nosed nazi
but the current justice system is extremely flawed. Especially that part of me getting a £70 fine for peeing in the street. I'm more outraged about that than any murderer getting any wrist slapping..

Again that's not the point - someone caught with thousands of pounds worth of class A drugs and equipment got a £100 fine compared with my £70.

However, I do believe that no one has a right to be supported by the government because they have kids. Yes, the government may choose to support some or indeed all, but I hate the sense of entitlement that some people have.
