I agree some things come down to personal tasteand I've been called a c*** on b3ta for claiming to be a Captain Beefheart fan who doesn't like Trout Mask Replica (bit harsh I thought). But while I don't personally like trilling R'n'B vocals, I can see that Kelly Clarkson has a great voice. Similarly, you might not like OK Computer, Kid A, In Rainbows but you've got to recognise musically they're impressive and varied.
