it's a research lectureship
which means i get to do lots of research (if i can think of something good to research) but i also have to lecture to undergrads which is less good. Very excited about it though

The talking bit is easy!
For every hour's talking, there are several hours of preparation. That's the hard bit. Then there's exam questions, tutorial questions, marking, admin...

That's what I mean
If the only thing you had to do, was take a few scraps of paper, blaaah at the kids, then go home, I'd do it.
Some people are really intelligent, know their stuff inside out, but are paralysed with fear at having to speak in public. I'd like to just do that bit for them and then say "The Wizard of Oz is busy, but I shall forward your questions onto him..." before legging it out of the lecture theatre.

Yes, but
it helps if you know it inside out before you do the talky bit. Otherwise you'd be as well just letting the students read a book.

Then there's the research. That's a whole separate topic. It's not as easy as it sounds!

No, you misunderstand
There are two tasks here:

1 - Lecturing. This requires preparation, (i.e. writing the courses), compilation of exam questions, tutorial questions etc, as well as actually giving the lectures themselves, the latter being a relatively easy bit unless you're shit at public speaking.

2 - Research. This is conducted separately from the students, and could be unrelated to the lecture courses you have to give.

Incidentally, my parents once told me that if I'd been born a girl, they'd have called me Pamela!

1) Your research
2) Research and prep for lectures.
I was half joking anyway, like "Ooh someone brainy give me the script, like a bubbly weather bimbo who isn't a meteorologist, and I'll say it at them them run off!"

I'm looking forward to the research
It's all the grant applications i will have to do and papers i will have to write so i can keep the job that's a bit daunting.
The last time i lectured anyone it was to a bunch of 13 year old cadets about the origins of the RAF, i'm hoping the undergrads will be easier to cope with!

I'm going to facing potentially hostile undergrads
according to the interview panel. Apparently not all the animal science people are willing to embrace the evilness of molecular biology. I will batter them with it till they succumb!
