Yeah, you cook the lamb directly on a shelf in the oven
Letting the juice drip onto the spuds/veg you are cooking on a lower shelf.

that was in one of the belly pork recipes I looked at.

I can never remember the best way to get good crackling. Jamie Oliver knows his stuff in that respect.

Apply plenty of rock salt before you start cooking it.
It'll be lovely and crispy.
