The first Damned album was produced by Nick Lowe, if I remember correctly.
One of several splendid contributions he has made to music.

As far as debut 'punk' albums go
The Fall - Live at the Witchtrials is a definite contender. Still sounds fresh as fuck.

In other Fall news
There was a programme on last night with Simon Armitage tracing the origins of a poem which was in a (dare I say it) earthy Yorkshire dialect. At one point he went to a football match and they played "Kicker Conspiracy" as the background music. It's odd how you still get a kick out of hearing music that you liked but wasn't mainstream making it on to the telly.
