I slept like a baby last night. Woke up screaming, covered in piss and shit.
How did you sleep last night? Also, does anybody have a water bed and if so, are they any good?

Dunno, passed out after all the booze and massive drugs

I left a dvd on and kept waking up to the intro page

I pitty you for not switching it off, though. I like going to sleep with the radio on, but then it keeps waking me up when they laugh or play music, but I can't bring myself to switch it off. Silly girl.

here's a quick lesson: Things will go better for you if learn to laugh at people taking the piss out of you, particularly when it is funny.

Further hint: repetition of the same thing (like a meme) makes it funny. The target denying it makes it even funnier

It takes a hell of a lot to sink a cargo carrier so we weren't really in any danger. We spent a lot of the time running up and down the cabin with the swells. It got a bit annoying when I was trying to sleep, my sister was vomming every time she lay down, but I'm pretty hardy.

Most punk is shit.
Most 'punk' is not punk.

Some of the original stuff's amazing. Real 'punk rock' like mid-60s garage I LOVE.
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 14:52, Reply)
I think that's why the album I mentioned is great
It is proper punk, it doesn't sound like classic punk, punk rock or 'pop punk', it's something else, more raw.

Might not be up your street at all
But I think they're worth a listen.
(The album does mix in some drum 'n' bass style samples, just a 'heads up' in case you hate that sort of thing).

My brother recommends the new Revolting Cocks album.
Gibby Haynes from the Butthole Surfers (of whom I have been a huge fan for many years) guests on one track, always a good idea to have Gibby on board.

Have you listened to Clutch?
you might hate them, but their early stuff is raw heavy rock, the newer is a bit more blues-tinged. Got some great stoner lyrics throughout.

I recommend their song The Great Outdoors for a taster.

I'll check the new one out. I do love their cover of "Do you think I'm sexy?".

Utter, utter lies.
Can't believe no-one pulled me up on it...

You've hit on something that irritates me, there.
People (particularly film/programme makers) representing 1976/7 always make out that it was full of people sporting mohawks and wearing bin liners and bondage trousers, when it really, really was nothing like that.
The bit in the Great Rock n Roll Swindle (and it's the only bit worth watching) that cuts between the actual footage of the Sex Pistols on their trip down the Thames and the reconstruction of it, illustrates this perfectly.
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:10, Reply)
It was only due to the death of wotsisname recently
That I found out how much of the Sex Pistols image was engineered. I have a pair of Sex Pistols boxers, officially licensed, which I bought from New Look for a few quid.
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:14, Reply)
Heh. Mind you, I bought some Country Life butter the other day.

(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:17, Reply)
It's even more evident in Don Letts' superb ‘Punk Rock Movie’.
The original people were really inventive in their dress – by the time a ‘punk look’ was being marketed, and there were ‘punk nights’ in clubs etc the game was already up.

Rat Scabies, was my favourite member of The Damned, purely on the basis of his name.

(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 14:52, Reply)
The first Damned album was produced by Nick Lowe, if I remember correctly.
One of several splendid contributions he has made to music.
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:01, Reply)
It's a masterpiece.
Streets ahead of The Clash's contemporaneous coil of dog faeces.

As far as debut 'punk' albums go
The Fall - Live at the Witchtrials is a definite contender. Still sounds fresh as fuck.
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:33, Reply)
In other Fall news
There was a programme on last night with Simon Armitage tracing the origins of a poem which was in a (dare I say it) earthy Yorkshire dialect. At one point he went to a football match and they played "Kicker Conspiracy" as the background music. It's odd how you still get a kick out of hearing music that you liked but wasn't mainstream making it on to the telly.
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:53, Reply)
My pal Nick
drummed for the Fall at Reading one year after Mark Smith fired their drummer an hour before their set.
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:57, Reply)
To be fair, I don't think it's an official Fall gig if he doesn't fire, fight with, or marry one of the band.

(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 16:04, Reply)
I did a photo shoot in Brix Smith's house once.
She was wandering around topless at one point. I don't think she's all there.

Although they would suit the drunken bed pisser, a quick wipe of the velour and it would be good to go again.
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 14:43, Reply)
I woke up at 5.30, 6.30 and 7.30
each time completely confused as to why I was still in bed and also confused as I couldn't remember what time I needed to get up... then I fell back to sleep again and freaked out when my alarm finally went off at 8.00! :S
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 14:53, Reply)
Out of interest
What time were you actually meant to get up?
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:01, Reply)
8.15!
My brain gets hurty as I work 8.00ish - 4.30 Mon-Tues and 10.30 - 6.00 on Wed, Thurs, Fri... and I forget what days I do stuff! :S
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:06, Reply)
At least there's some sort of routine
I rarely know what day it is these days.
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:07, Reply)
This is true, its sort of there
At least working those hours I get more chance of getting a seat on the tube - huzah! :)

Its Wednesday today... if that helps?
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:15, Reply)
Although not knowing the day can be seen as a downside
I have little to do other than applying for jobs, so it doesn't generally actually matter what day it is.
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:24, Reply)
That's fair enough
Probably best to check the date if you get a job interview though! :)

How are you getting on with the job hunt?
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:29, Reply)
I'm surprisingly ok with what date it is
Just not what day that's relating to. Job hunt's going ok, lots of applications to do, and hoping I get something. I've lifted the embargo on applying for jobs in London too, which opens things up a bit.

How's things with you? Fully recovered from 'the impressive incident' yet?
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:35, Reply)
I see!
Fingers crossed something good comes up. Good plan to open the search up in London as well! :)

I'm alright ta. Still a bit clunky but otherwise okay thank you, also managed to escape without bruises, so that's pretty darn good!
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 15:38, Reply)
To be honest
It's nothing short of amazing that you didn't get so much as a bruise.

Swipey convinced me London isn't as bad as I thought, so thought I might as well apply to stuff there.`

drummer in my band is 36 and he gets mocked mercilessly for being old.

frankly, he is much the same as I am, and have been since I was about 24. He's just slightly better paid, got a slightly nicer car, and slightly smaller mortgage and is already married.

Still smokes loads of dope and listens to rock music though.

Google shed no light. I'm slightly concerned/worried now.

Just make sure that arousal isn't the dominant of the three emotions.

I'll be at home eating pasta bake and blogging about shoes probably.

other pretty things too, and its not for you... its for girls with the possibility of getting free shit if it does well... so do one! :-P

Free girly stuff though
like shoes and handbags and stuff! :D

I'm going to work on getting the free stuff, this will probably mean I'll have to lie to get it though... I'll have to say that Topshop is really good or something... oh well!

so who the hell are they selling them to? They can't all be purchased by those dancing boys from JLS!
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 17:06, Reply)
I reckon they're accident buys
My brother needed some clothing advice, so I scoured Topman, French Connection etc and picked him out some really nice stuff. However I've got a poor sense of humour and included some snakeskin extra skinny jeans, and things like that. He bought them and was too embarrassed to take them back haha

I think you have to get 1,000s of people following you before companies take notice and try to flog you free stuff in order for you to big it up to girls with tiny brains and big credit cards... but I'm willing to put in the hours... I'm in need of a creative outlet at the moment, this'll do the trick for now! :)
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 16:59, Reply)
I'd be tempted
except I only buy and wear stuff I like, and I suspect you'd have to be wider ranging than that!
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 17:04, Reply)
This is also my problem
but I'm doing it anyway. I have spent so many years looking at clothes on the internet I can recommend sites to pretty much anyone to find clothes they want, whether they're my taste or not... I'm not sure how this has happened, but I'm pretty sure it'll assist me in the getting of free stuff!
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 17:08, Reply)
best of luck with it
these days I just end up on ebay mostly, though I have got a few nice things off it
(, Wed 18 Aug 2010, 17:09, Reply)
I get scared by ebay as you're dealing with internet people, its only going to go wrong!
but I applaud anyone who gets what they want from it, its really cool if you know what you're doing... I just don't! :D
