I think everyone has to figure out the best way for them to give up
but I did it by taking a long weekend away and taking only nicotine gum. Lots of sightseeing to keep me busy and no psychological cues to trigger a craving meant that by Sunday Afternoon I was hardly using any gum.

Then I sent a massively smug text to all my mates about how easy it was. Of course as soon as I got back and was doing all the things and being all the places I used to smoke I had massive cravings. But I was too embarrassed to start again after that text as I'd never have lived it down.
