No, employment law is barely adequate, and there are some sectors which are over expoloited.
Electrical and civil engineers for two. It is unfortunate that the strong unions, in well protected sectors abuse their status.

Also, Bob Crow should be played in a film by Ray Winstone, bonking Boris Johnson on the nogin with a sock of pool balls, and screaming "I'm the daddy now."

as far as I'm aware as a civil engineer we don't have a union
if we do, none of the engineers I know belong to it, and it does nothing.

I don't, and I doubt many of friends in the industry would say they were either
my mrs as a structural engineer is, but that's because of people being on mat leave (so increased work load) and the company as a whole has had a load of redundancies and a 10% pay cut. If they were to go on strike then the company would crumble, more than it is anyway due to lack of construction projects.
