We've had boredom and fed up - what about POLITICAL CONTROVERSY.
Tonight and tomorrow my travels to and from work will be completely fucked up by Bob Crow and his club of blackmailers.
Now I personally do not give a fucking shit about those mongols and their shitty but incredibly well paid jobs. I really DO object to London being held to ransom every time these ghastly peasants fancy another payrise.
I put it to you that in this day and age employment law more than adequately protects 'the worker' and thus trades unions are redundant when considering the reasons why they were formed. Do you agree?

Yes.
I've never joined a union as I believe I can represent myself better than a union can.

^ I think he may have the right idea
Employment law seems to adequately protect most professions these days. I think there are a few exceptions, e.g., teaching, arts, where either things aren't so well regulated or you don't have adequate protection against the little shits you face on a daily basis. Tube drivers do not fall into this category.
On the whole,
I must once again disown Bob Crow. He is not a proper crow, and he is certainly not behaving with the dignity of one.

Many of the teachers I had (and some of the people I know who became teachers) would not have lasted 5 minutes in 'the real world', so I say 'fucking boo hoo' to teachers.

At a rough estimate, when seated in my chair and sitting upright,
My eye can't be far off 5ft. Assuming, like every man who posts on /OT, you have a modest 12" wang (unless you're a QotW regular, in which case it's normally 15"), and you have disproportionately small legs for your height, I think you'll be lucky if you can caress my nipples with it.

I just think striking is like having a tantrum when you don't get your own way. And all those BA people who striked over Christmas ruining everyone's holiday plans were just awful, they left so many families unable to be together over Christmas.

unions should fuck off.
it may seem harsh, but a lot of people are underpaid and they don't get the opportunity to protest in such a way.
The cunts are lucky to have a job at all, as are a lot of us, so they should be grateful for that. If they don't like it I'm sure there are plenty more people who would take the job at the current wage.

No, employment law is barely adequate, and there are some sectors which are over expoloited.
Electrical and civil engineers for two. It is unfortunate that the strong unions, in well protected sectors abuse their status.
Also, Bob Crow should be played in a film by Ray Winstone, bonking Boris Johnson on the nogin with a sock of pool balls, and screaming "I'm the daddy now."

as far as I'm aware as a civil engineer we don't have a union
if we do, none of the engineers I know belong to it, and it does nothing.

Do you feel over exploited though?
Could you do with surf breaks instead of tea breaks?

I don't, and I doubt many of friends in the industry would say they were either
my mrs as a structural engineer is, but that's because of people being on mat leave (so increased work load) and the company as a whole has had a load of redundancies and a 10% pay cut. If they were to go on strike then the company would crumble, more than it is anyway due to lack of construction projects.

A union should represent the rights and interests of workers to their employers...
.. and not be politically minded - or in this case greedy cunts.
Employment law is certainly more towards the employer than it was when I 'were-a-lad' but there are still grey areas where the great unwashed need some help to ensure that they do get treated fairly.

I've spent two days trying to work out why when emailing from my script only works some of the time.
Turns out I've got 100s of emails in my spambox from my code now, didn't think to look in there.
Oh well, at least it all works the way it should. What a silly saussage I've been ! I even rebuilt PEAR and reinstalled the Mail, Mail_SMTP, NET_SOCCET and NET_SMTP scripts via the CLI and then bumped them into my included_paths directory in the php.ini file. What a muggings I've been ! It was all in the spam box to begin with.
This is a metaphore for my life in a lot of ways.

Employment law may well protect you, but if you can't afford a lawyer you're screwed.
My workplace is very unionised; when changes are planned or issues occur, representatives of various factory departments engage in dialogue with the management and a solution is found. The management don't descend from the mountain and impose changes without considering the consequences, likewise the partnership council act reasonably and don't throw a strop when they get their own way.
It must work because the company hasn't stopped growing even during these last few years, and turned over enough profit to give everyone on site got a 2.5% payrise last month.
