But it's a bit old school and unfair, eh? The fact that as a woman, you go from being the daughter of Mr Smith to the wife of Mr Roberts. Very, very unfair.

And the kids are more mine than his, so they'll have my surname for sure!

As we're marrying in Spain it won't be even a question (in fact, they're asking him why he's got only 1 surname, not 2)

A colleague of mine took his wife's name when they married
because he's Danish and he has a very common surname they were encouraged by the authorities to help diversify the pool of surnames in Denmark a bit. It confuses things when most people in the country have one of about three surnames.
