It was unbearably generic
and he had the pure audacity, with a total paucity of writing talent, to lay his dirty mitts on Troy

He did follow a fairly strict formula. But it worked on me, his Wolf in Shadow series, and Ghost King,
the take on King Arthur were my favourites. I thought the Troy series were brilliant and a great reimagination. I just didn't like the end.

there was no genuine innovation, nothing to raise him above the dross of what was basically sword and sorcery dressed up a bit.
