He hasn't been convicted of a crimetherefore he is innocent and should be afforded all the rights of any other innocent person i.e. The police shouldn't be able to force him to disclose his password.

He has been convicted of a crimeHe was in contravention of the RIPA.
I agree with you that the police shouldn't be able to force him to disclose his password, it IS an infringement on their privacy, but RIPA has been established.
