Great!
Did he said why he hadn't replied before?
(, Fri 8 Oct 2010, 11:59, Reply)
No and I don't really care.

(, Fri 8 Oct 2010, 12:00, Reply)
I shall ask again later then!

I shall make a public announcement.

how did he get back to you? linkedin?

(, Fri 8 Oct 2010, 11:59, Reply)
He emailed me having seen the message on Linkedin
I was tempted to ask him why he hadn't responded to my emails but thought it best to leave it until I have the machine back & have seen what condition it is in.

Yeah, don't push the no-contact thing, he doesn't need any excuses to get shitty.
Just be cordial and you'll hopefully get your laptop back.

Exactly. I shall be the model of civility and gentlemanship

Plus, it's possible he's having a really shit time of it
and you don't want to go to lock up this afternoon to find him sat at his desk stapling your name into his forehead.

Quite right. I have remained civil in all my messages & voicemails to him
Not sure I have liked behaving like an adult for a change though.

I'm sure you won't need to
But if you suspect you might need to use the data on their in a complaints or criminal procedure later, then either don't use the laptop at all, or if you really have to, take an image of the hard drive first.
(, Fri 8 Oct 2010, 12:21, Reply)
Thanks for that. We will need to use it, but I will copy the entire hard drive on to Dropbox and an external drive first.

(, Fri 8 Oct 2010, 12:23, Reply)
I'd go one better
See if you can take a whole disk image (using Ghost or a similar program), as that will capture the free space of the drive too, which might contain useful deleted data.
(, Fri 8 Oct 2010, 12:26, Reply)
Will do. Ta.

(, Fri 8 Oct 2010, 12:29, Reply)
