The Wetherspoons is indeed on the corner of George SquareAnd is fairly awful.
If you head across to the Merchant City there are a few good eateries and bars, or you can head to Waxy O'Connors which is right in the centre. It has about 7 different levels, and 5 or 6 bars in it.
