I don't think it is needy to enjoy being complimented
desperately seeking them out, perhaps, but not just taking pride in having something good about you or your actions commented on.

the embarrassment thing is fair though

also, I believe in giving praise where it's due. There's too much bitching and putting people down as it is. If someone does something good then I'll tell them.
