It really was.
On our way down from Anchorage we saw a golden eagle, a bunch more bald eagles, two moose, and in Beluga Bay we saw a pod of grey whales.

While we were there a storm hit, making 23 foot swells out to sea- hence all the fishermen at the Salty Dawg. Though it's a little difficult to make out here, there are mountains on the opposite side of the bay. We woke in the mornings to the moon over those mountains, glittering on the water. Our bed was just opposite the windows.

It was most definitely ace.
