Advice from Old People
Sometimes, just sometimes, old people say something worth listening to. Ok, so it's like picking the needle out of a whole haystack of mis-remembered war stories, but those gems should be celebrated.
Tell us something worthwhile an old-type person has told you.
Note, we're leaving the definition of old up to you, you smooth-skinned youngsters.

right, not sure who's the oldest here, probably Davros' Granddad, but here's some advice- chocolate hobnobs taste like bananas if you dunk them in beer.

I went to Virginia .... and as their motto says...Virginia is for lovers.
Very hot though.....I got heat lumps and played pool with the rednecks.

I've only passed through Virginia on a train. Was lucky enough to visit in the Winter.
Isn't that where TRL lives, and did you meet him when you were over?

Re Very conservative but very nice
When I visited the South (especially New Orleans), I was impressed with the hospitality. Managed to stick to the islands of debauchery in the sea of conservatism (eg. the New Orleans French quater) and mostly avoided the religious nutters.
EDIT: Hi POD

Strange tale....
At my hotel was an American guy who worked there who not only guessed I was from Lancashire but also guessed roughly which part I was from. This is stranger in that I moved away from my home town from the age of 16 and have been all over the uk and don't really have a very broad accent any more or so I thought.

I think the bashers have enough b3ta in-jokes to totally bewilder spouses/friends/chaperones etc. Afterall, we've already created a very rich virtual world with all kinds of surreal nonsense, so what could the real world possibly have to offer that can compete with our combined immagination?
Oh, who am I kidding * sobs *
@BGB re accents
For an American, that's very impressive. They must get a lot of English guests there.

Actually, we don't.
I rarely encounter English people around here, and that particular hotel is not near the airport or anything else that would attract people from other parts of the globe, or so I'd think. How this guy managed to pinpoint her accent is beyond me.
The expression on her face was priceless, though. She looked somewhat hurt as she said to me "I didn't think it was that bad!"
