USA in country selection drop-down lists
Ordering stuff on the internet and selecting your country of residence from a drop-down list.

Why, oh why does "United States" have to be the first entry on the alphabetical list? I'm in the United Kingdom and have to scroll down to the end of the list to find my country. Americans should have to do the same.

Actually thinking about it, it's probably so that Americans can find United States in the list - it might be a bit taxing for them if they actually had to know the order of letters in the alphabet. Other Merkins may see United States but not realise that it's their country as many of them seem to think that their country is actually called "USA! USA! USA!"

Easy for you to say
I live in Jersey and I constantly have to fraudulently claim that I live in the sodding UK just to be able to complete forms on t'internet because Channel Islands or Jersey don't appear in the list at all! How difficult would it be to have a standardised and accurate list that everybody used in any program.

Well, realistically
who's ordering the most stuff online? An American is more likely to be ordering things on a computer than someone from, say, Uganda.

On the other hand, I've frequently encountered places where United States is listed below United Arab Republic. *shrug*

Yes
Americans are quite likely to be ordering stuff online, but are they really that retarded that they need their country putting first in an otherwise alphabetical list?

I'm not sure I would view it that way.
That is, unless bookmarking a page is retarded because you're too dumb to remember a long URL and type it in, or to remember what page you were on and flip to it. (that was for those who aren't computer geeks like me)

It's just a convenience thing. If you're running a breakfast place, say, and you know that most people drink coffee rather than tea in the morning, are you likely to brew one cup at a time? Of course not- you'll make it more convenient for the vast majority of your customers who drink coffee, and not put forth as much effort for those who drink tea, and those who drink orange juice will have to make do with the little bottles of it. You cater to your largest customer base. Same applies here.

As I say, though, as often as not the US is down near the bottom of the list, which has never really bothered me one way or the other. As long as I can find it on the list I'm happy.
