Forgive me, as it's been a bad day already and it's only 10.40.
People who do the 'shuffle-shuffle' thing on the wheel while driving.

WHY? It's dangerous as it doesn't give you as much control, and it looks stupid.

People don't need to be instructed on how to properly turn a steering wheel. And if they do, they don't really have the nouse to be driving in the first place.

You know -
the way they teach you to steer when you're learning to drive. Instead of just TURNING THE FUCKING CAR, you're encouraged to shuffle your hands from the top to the bottom of the wheel.

The problem is that, while not being a particularly bad method if you do it smoothly, most people don't. So they turn the car a little bit at a time, and instead of smoothly turning corners you never know if they're about to drive into you as they seem to jerk away at the last minute.

Or is it just me who has noticed this?

I did my pass plus recently,
and according to my instructor, the head guy wojitmacallit (forgot his title) at the DSA has released a letter saying it's bad to do the shuffly thing.

The only reason you do it is that, although shuffling is bad, as far as they're concerned crossing your hands is worse, and the easiest way to stop people crossing their hands is the shuffly thing.

I thought it was conventional wisdom
that it's something you do to pass your test (because that's what they're looking for) and then never ever again...
