Seriously, you lot have far more oddball slang than we do, and do a lot of strange things to the language- I've seen vodka referred to as "voddies", sandwiches are "sarmies", Christmas is "Crimbo", and so on. What the fuck, people! You invented the language and formalized it with the OED- so why don't you speak it? Someone blagged yer copy, guv?

I thought it was with an M. I first encountered that term in Jethro Tull's "Up the Pool".

Still, it's rather confusing but somehow amusing to see the strange permutations of English that come from over there.

.. that it's a "work in progress" really. the Charvers try to make it turn corners every now and then, but the majority of English speakers attempt to head them off at the pass...
