Found the right place for this finally.
The bastards... Everywhere I go I see Lego sets with "special shapes" and Specificly shaped parts.... model "Technic Lego" cars which have pre-formed suspension wishbones and lumps of engine that can ONLY be a lump of engine... It's no longer adaptive, it's merely a 3D jigsaw puzzle with bumps on it!!!
THEY HAVE DESTROYED LEGO.
I remember having the ability to make ANYTHING from a kit of Lego. Nowadays there is one thing, and one thing only.... Gone is the "make anything out of standard parts" philosophy.... Gone is the need for creativity and imaginativeness. A set of shelves from Ikea is a more adaptive building set.
MY brother and I used to spend AGES making stuff that looked cool.... and now? Castles with frikking BROWN parts in them.... mean...REALLY !!! BROWN!!!! the horror. Colours for LEGO are Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, and Grey.... White at a SERIOUS stretch can be allowed, and Green if you count the big flat sheets... But BROWN???? NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!

Technic Motor-set (with two gearboxes)... I salute you.
Servo-motor system with logic gates? GO TO HELL.
Bits or rubber tubing to represent hoses: awesome.
Pre-moulded convoluted exhaust manifold malarky.... (just to make it look REAL) feck RIGHT off. You're taking the PISS!!!

I had that Technic car with a boxer engine, rear suspension, a gearbox and adjusting seats. The box contained a lot of bits.

I feel sorry for the kids getting a Lego Castle or Jet which consists of eight pre-shaped bits and fuck all else. New toy every day, my arse.

technics test car
I had the technic test car when I was a nipper. It took me ages to save up for it. It had suspension and a gear box and took fookin ages to build......with proper bits.

Lego,
too fucking right! When I was a kid the only "special" bits of lego was the animals- pirates monkey, parrot and shark. Oh, and the treasure chests and cannons.
I used to use a mixute of technic lego and normal lego and make fucking amazing weapons for the technic-lego figures. I'm talking pump-action shotguns (that pumped), pistols, assault rifles, a bazooka. I was a bleedin' arms dealer! (made and sold stuff to friends). I saw some of the stuff now and couldn't believe it!

The only brown lego should be for the pirate ships. I had 2 of thew cunts, and the island-castle-thingy.

a winner.

I used to get Lego every year for birthday and Christmas and make the thing in the instructions straight away.

THEN I would dismantle and build something else with the bits, and that was when the fun began. Something that generally had 15 more guns on it (that wouldn't be hard because in my day Lego spaceships didn't have ANY guns) and lots of big engines and - of course - rubber hoses. Good times.

I had a castle that was so old school it was entirely yellow, and you had to make the horses out of blocks yourself!

none of this new bollocks.

I even had a book that had a shitload of technics things you could make if you happened to have the right bits.

the car with pneumatic gull-wing doors was particularly good.
