Professions I Hate
Broken Arrow says: Bankers, recruitment consultants, politicians. What professions do you hate and why?

Whoever does mail-based marketing at Virgin Media.
I'm registered with the MPS. Most companies accept this. They take it as a useful indication that I don't like receiving junk mail, and that I probably won't respond to it, and act accordingly.
There's the odd leaflet war between the local takeaways, but overall I don't have to feel particularly guilty about the amount of paper that ends up in the recycling.
Except one company.
Virgin Media decided that my reason for going on the MPS was that I didn't want mail to my name (spelt wrongly, I hasten to add), I wanted mail to "THE OCCUPIER".
And Virgin Media decided that not only did I want mail to "THE OCCUPIER", I wanted lots of it.
Even if you include all the takeaway leaflets, all the business cards pushed through the door by taxi firms, and all the offers from companies I already deal with, Virgin Media supply, by weight, over half my junk mail.
It's not cheap stuff either, they're thick brochures on good quality paper with full colour gloss printing. In three years I haven't bought a single thing from them, so I can only assume it's some gigantic paper-wasting exercise intended to dwarf the K Foundation's attempts to dispose of a million quid - either that, or whoever handles their mailouts also has shares in the local printing firm.

Is it just "the occupier"
Or
"The occupier"
Your address?
If there isnt an address then its advertising that they pay to have put into the post for all houses in an area. If i remember rightly your local delivery office (Royal Mail, not post office, the place where you go to pick up a missed parcel) should have some forms to opt you out, or should at least be able to tell you how.
Damned if I can remember what the proper name for it is though.
And don't rant at the posties about it, I worked as one as a saturday job during 6th form, and it was quite a shock when the weight of the round doubled the first weekday I did (for extra holiday cash), purely due to the extra junk mail (mailsort 2-3, and the unaddressed stuff).
If it's occupier/ address, then shove it in a mailbox, it may well find its way back to them, and keep their mail dept even more busy

Virgin Media are fucktards
They're a cable company and everyone on our 500+ property housing estate receives their snail spam through the letterbox advertising 20 meg broadband etc. etc. (small print: to cabled areas).
Guess what? None of our estate is cabled, nor is it ever likely to be as it would be uneconomical.
Bunch of belms.

I spent 5 years writing "not known at this address" on the envelopes and posting them back.
or "Not interested" but they keep posting it. How much money do they spend on postage purely to piss people off?

I'm a Virgin Media customer
I've got their XL TV and Broadband packages and - while they're utterly shite when anything goes wrong - I've got no complaints (because in eight years I've only needed to call their useless sodding call centres twice).
And they STILL send endless mail destined only for the recycling bin to "THE OCCUPIER" at my (single dwelling) address. Apparently they've been struggling to make money of late, like a lot of businesses, but you don't need an MBA to see that they'd be able to do that if they targeted their direct marketing a bit more effectively.
