This is a question The Soundtrack of your Life

Che Grimsdale writes: Now that Simon Cowell's stolen Everybody Hurts, tell us about songs that mean something to you - good, bad, funny or tragic, appropriate or totally inappropriate songs that were playing at key times.

Halcyon
Orbital in general, but this song in particular reminds me of some of the best nights out I've had. I've lost count of how many times I've been to see them - always with as big a group of mates as possible. usually about 2/3 of the way through the night, Halcyon enters the breakdown, just the bassline bouncing along. And then... a bit of Bon Jovi and Belinda Carlisle. Never fails to raise a smile and cause much manly, sweaty hugging.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfn-YpP4pjI skip to 4 minutes in for the bit I'm talking about

I think the best time was in 2004 at Somerset House. Sun setting over the courtyard, Sol from Hollyoaks trying to bum a cigarette and the missus and I with a load of mates being very very intoxicated.

Lush
was the first ever non-Prodigy techno song made me investigate the genre further.

Belfast - still an utterly perfect elctronic song seldom surpassed.

All in all, Orbitals' quality control was a bit iffy tho.

I'm afraid by the time they started all that Belinda Carlisle pish,
they had jumped the shark. Cringeworthy nonsense if truth be told. Seeing them in 1992 at Brixton Academy Megadog with Aphex Twin is probably the highlight of my gigging career. Also in a gasholder in Amsterdam, when they still had some credibility.

And don't get me started on that piss poor Dr Who theme remix...

not at all
the high point was about 96, when they released In Sides. After that, I've not been as keen on their albums, but there's still the occasional belter. Know Where To Run, Meltdown, You Lot, Funny Break...

And they're still acce live. Always play the old favorites.

But yeah, the Doctor Who remix is a bit gash. Drum track is far too weak.

Somerset House
I was there. A blinding night, much beer consumed. Annoyed many friends in the wee small hours by phoning and telling them I was lost and asking "which way is it out of London?"
