I coach kids rugby
Ages 8 to 13. This year we lost one of the better players as his Mum was worried that it was too rough and he would get hurt.
He took up hockey
So far 2 broken arms and 3 missing front teeth

You think hockey is mental?
Try hurling. As a colleague of mine put it "everything which counts as a foul in hockey is an accepted tactic in hurling". Hard balls, whacked down the field at head height, no protective gear ...
